What Does Health Mean To You?

Hello gorgeous!!

How are you?!

I’m so excited that you are here with me and I can’t wait to share everything health and wellness with YOU! Today I wanted to talk about the topic of overall health, what it means to you, and the importance of  taking care of yourself as a WHOLE and not just in parts. First things first...

What does health mean to you?

Take a few moments to think about it and write it down.

Is it having great blood levels and a positive annual wellness check-up?

Is it maintaining a nice body, while eating veggies all day, everyday?

Depending on what health means to you, there's always more to the picture!

Are you taking care of yourself like you should? Mind, body, and soul?

Health is a topic that means something different to everyone!

The definition of health in the Webster’s Dictionary means “the state of being free from illness and injury”.

As that may well be the exact definition, I believe that the word "health" and "being healthy" has more depth and includes more than just being free from illness and injury.

Now illness does come from not taking care of yourself both short and long-term, but I feel that it’s a mix of multiple factors that make up your health as a WHOLE.

I feel like there are 6 primary components to focus on when thinking about your health. These building blocks are sooooo completely necessary to fully live a healthy life.

These 6 components include:

Physical

Mental/Emotional

Spiritual

Intellectual

Social

Environmental

Embracing these 6 parts of wellness will allow you to become the BEST version of you! You already are fabulous, but what if you could enhance your fabulousness?

Let's break each of them down...

Physical wellness allows you to function optimally from day to day. It’s involving exercise/activity and good eating habits into each and everyday. Both are not only good to look and feel good, but allow you to function in your everyday life. It allows for enough energy to get you through the day and being able to perform functionally with your daily activities.

Mental and Emotional wellness go hand in hand. It’s learning how to cope with your emotions and not just deal with them. It’s becoming aware and more attentive towards your thoughts and feelings (sadness, anger, happiness, grief, anxiety, etc). Expressing them appropriately and realizing that life has it’s ups and downs. It’s figuring out how to deal with the downs, so you can grow and evolve emotionally and mentally.

Social wellness is how you interact with others. It’s being able to form lasting and meaningful relationships, while learning to respect yourself and others. As well as creating healthy support systems (friends, family, co-workers) that provide a positive and thriving environment.*

Spiritual wellness (LOVE this definition) is "a personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives. While different individuals may have different views of what spiritualism is, it is generally considered to be the search for meaning and purpose in human existence, leading one to strive for a state of harmony with oneself and others while working to balance inner needs with the rest of the world".**

Environmental wellness is being more aware of your interactions between the environment, community, and yourself. It’s learning to live in harmony with the earth and protecting it, by recycling, conserving energy, not polluting, enjoying and appreciating being outside, and creating home and work environments that are supportive and nurturing.***

Intellectual wellness is challenging your mind and finding ways to engage in mentally stimulating and creative activities that will grow your mind and skills. Self-development is so important because there are always things we need to work on! We are continuously meant to grow.

Have you ever thought about all of these components working together as one?

Doesn’t it make so much more sense to focus on your health as a whole? I will be sharing a little bit of everything with YOU on many of these individual topics, in hopes that I can inspire you to live a healthier and more vibrant life!

xoxo Krista
